1. Who We Are and Acceptance of These Terms
ShortURL (the "Service") is operated by ShortURL's operator (details to be confirmed), based in to be confirmed ("we", "us", "our"). Our contact details are in section 23.
Your use of the Service is a contract between you and ShortURL's operator (details to be confirmed), who operates ShortURL. Paid plans are ordered from Paddle.com, our online reseller (section 7); these Terms govern the Service you receive.
By accessing or using the Service at shorturl.so, console.shorturl.so, shrt.example or any of their subdomains, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms apply to all visitors, guest users, and registered account holders, on the Free plan and on paid plans. They apply now to every paid plan bought or renewed from today, and to all other use of the Service from the effective date above.
2. Description of Service
ShortURL is a URL shortening and link analytics service, offered on a Free plan and on paid plans. It allows you to:
- Create short URLs that redirect to any destination URL, each with its own QR code.
- Track click analytics for each short link, including click count, country, city, device type, browser, operating system, referrer source, and whether a click came from the link's QR code.
- Manage and organise your links in workspaces and projects, via a web-based console at console.shorturl.so and our API.
Guest users may create a limited number of short links without registering. Registered users receive additional features including link management, click analytics history, and a higher link quota. What each plan includes is set out in section 6.
ShortURL does not send emails or text messages, sell advertising or traffic, or hide or disguise where a link goes: every short link redirects openly to its destination.
3. Accounts and Workspaces
To access the full Service, you must create an account using a valid email address and password. Account authentication is handled via AWS Cognito. You are responsible for:
- Keeping your credentials confidential.
- All activity that occurs under your account.
- Notifying us immediately at hi@shorturl.so if you suspect unauthorised access.
Your links belong to a workspace. Every account has its own workspace, of which it is the owner. A plan belongs to the workspace, not to a person: its limits apply to all the workspace's links. A paid plan is bought by the workspace's owner or an admin of it, acting for the workspace, and they accept these Terms for it.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, and old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live to buy a paid plan.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to shorten URLs that:
- Link to malware, phishing pages, ransomware, or other malicious content.
- Distribute spam or unsolicited commercial messages.
- Violate any applicable law or regulation, including but not limited to laws governing intellectual property, privacy, and consumer protection.
- Contain or promote illegal content, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), content that incites violence, or content that constitutes harassment or abuse.
- Circumvent security controls or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system.
- Impersonate ShortURL or any other person or entity.
- Are obscene, defamatory, invasive of another's privacy, or harmful to a child.
- Infringe any patent, trademark, copyright, or other proprietary right.
- Are knowingly false or misleading in a way calculated to deceive.
- Threaten public order, or national security or sovereignty.
We reserve the right to disable or delete any link that violates these Terms without prior notice. Repeated violations may result in account suspension or termination.
If you believe a short link breaches these rules, report it through our grievance redressal process. That page names our Grievance Officer and the timelines we work to.
5. Guest Links
Guest links are short URLs created without a registered account. They are subject to the following:
- A single guest link can be created per browser session.
- Guest links are associated with an anonymous session token stored in your browser's local storage, not with any personal account.
- You may claim a guest link into a registered account by signing up or logging in from the same session.
- Guest links are subject to the Free plan's per-link visit limit.
- We do not guarantee the permanent availability of unclaimed guest links.
6. Plans and Limits
The Service is offered on these plans. Prices are in US dollars.
- Free: Free of charge. Up to 25 tracked links per workspace, 100,000 visits per link, and 30 days of analytics history.
- Pro: $9 a month or $90 a year. Up to 1,000 tracked links per workspace, 1,000,000 visits per link, and 90 days of analytics history.
- Premium: $29 a month or $290 a year. Up to 10,000 tracked links per workspace, unlimited visits per link, and 6 months of analytics history.
- Team: $49 a month or $490 a year. Up to 25,000 tracked links per workspace, unlimited visits per link, and 1 year of analytics history.
- Enterprise: $99 a month or $990 a year. Up to 100,000 tracked links per workspace, unlimited visits per link, and lifetime analytics history.
Pro, Premium, Team and Enterprise can be bought from our pricing page or the Billing page of the console, or by writing to support@shorturl.so. The pricing page always shows the current plans and prices.
What the limits mean:
- Tracked links is the number of short links a workspace can hold. Once it reaches it, it cannot create new links until it is under the limit again or moves to a larger plan.
- Visits per link is the number of visits a short link redirects. A link that reaches its limit stops redirecting and shows a notice instead. The limit is set when the link is created. Upgrading raises the visit limit of every existing link of the workspace to the new plan's (section 9).
- Analytics history is how far back the date ranges of the console's analytics dashboard reach. Each link's own statistics and click list are not limited by plan and cover all its clicks. Click data older than your plan's history is retained, not deleted, and the dashboard reaches it again if you move to a plan with a longer history.
Features provided with support. Branded QR codes, custom domains, extra seats and the email support reply times are provided with the plans that list them on our pricing page, and set up by our team when you ask at support@shorturl.so. Support replies within the time your plan lists: 24 hours on Free, 12 hours on Pro, 8 hours on Premium, 4 hours on Team and 2 hours on Enterprise.
We may change the Free plan's limits with advance notice. We will not reduce the limits of a paid plan during a billing period you have already paid for.
7. Paid Plans, Payment and Automatic Renewal
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides customer service for orders and handles refunds; you can also write to us at support@shorturl.so. Your purchase is also subject to Paddle's Buyer Terms.
- Paid plans are priced in US dollars and billed in advance; Paddle may charge the equivalent in your local currency (section 12). You can pay monthly or yearly; a yearly plan costs ten times the monthly price, which is two months free.
- Paddle takes the payment on its own checkout. We never see or store your card or bank details.
- Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. By buying a paid plan you authorise Paddle to charge your payment method at the start of each new billing period for the plan's price at that time. For example, Pro yearly is $90 billed yearly and renews every year until you cancel it.
- Your plan becomes active as soon as Paddle confirms the payment.
- You can buy a paid plan before you have an account. The plan is attached to the workspace of the ShortURL account that signs in with the email address you used at checkout, once that address is verified.
- If a renewal payment fails, Paddle may retry it, and your plan stays active while it does. If the payment cannot be collected, the subscription ends and the workspace moves to a lower plan as described in section 10.
- Pay with a credit or debit card, or another payment method Paddle offers at checkout.
- The charge appears on your card or bank statement from Paddle (it starts with PADDLE.NET), not from ShortURL.
- Your bank or card issuer may charge currency conversion or international transaction fees on a payment in a currency other than your card's. Those fees are between you and your bank.
8. Cancellation
You can cancel a paid plan at any time, from the Billing page of the console (console.shorturl.so/billing), or by writing to support@shorturl.so. There is no cancellation fee.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and the workspace then moves to a lower plan as described in section 10. Refunds are covered by section 13.
9. Changing Plans
- Upgrading to a higher plan takes effect at once, in either billing cycle. You are charged straight away for the prorated difference for the rest of the current billing period.
- Upgrading raises your existing links' visit limits. When the workspace moves to a plan with a higher visit limit, every existing link of the workspace is raised to the new plan's limit (unlimited on Premium and above). Links that had reached their old limit start redirecting again.
- Downgrading to a lower plan takes effect at once. The unused part of your current plan is added to your Paddle credit balance and used toward your future payments; it is not refunded to your card.
- Switching between monthly and yearly billing takes effect at once. Moving to yearly billing is charged straight away, less the unused part of the current month. Moving to monthly billing adds the unused part of the current year to your Paddle credit balance, used toward your future payments.
10. After a Downgrade, Cancellation or Lapse
When a workspace moves to a lower plan, including the Free plan, nothing is deleted:
- Links keep the visit limits they had; downgrading lowers nothing (except after a refund or chargeback, below). New links get the new plan's visit limit.
- All your links keep working, including any above the new plan's link limit (except after a refund or chargeback, below). New links can be created once the workspace is under that limit.
- After a refund or chargeback that cancels a plan, the upgrade it gave is undone: links created or raised while that plan was active go back to the visit limit of the plan the workspace moves to (on the Free plan, 100,000 visits; a link that already had more visits stops redirecting at once), and active links created while that plan was active that are above the new plan's link limit are switched off, newest first. Switched-off links are not deleted, but they can't be switched back on while the workspace is at its link limit.
- Your click data is retained. The analytics dashboard reaches back as far as the new plan's analytics history; older data is reached again if you upgrade.
- The features provided with support (section 6) follow the plan the workspace moves to.
11. Price Changes
We may change the prices of paid plans. We will email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription, and it applies from your first renewal after that notice. A price change never affects a billing period you have already paid for. If you do not accept the new price, cancel before that renewal.
12. Taxes
Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax. Paddle calculates and adds any applicable sales tax, VAT or GST at checkout, and may show the price converted into your local currency, in which case you are charged in that currency. As the Merchant of Record, Paddle collects and pays that tax. The tax on a renewal is calculated in the same way when the renewal is charged.
13. Refunds
On every paid plan, monthly and yearly, you can ask for a full refund of a payment within 14 days of the purchase or of a renewal, for any reason, except as section 19 says. Duplicate charges, payments that failed but were still debited, and a paid plan we could not apply to your workspace are always refunded in full. Refunds are processed by Paddle to the original payment method. To ask for one, find your order at paddle.net or write to support@shorturl.so. The details are in our Cancellation & Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
14. Delivery
Paid plans are a digital service. Nothing is shipped: your plan is applied to your workspace as soon as the payment is confirmed, and the features provided with support are set up when you ask. See our Shipping & Delivery Policy.
15. Intellectual Property
We own the Service, including the ShortURL brand, logo, website design and underlying software, and all intellectual property in it. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the Service without prior written permission.
You retain ownership of all destination URLs and content you link to. By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and process your link data solely for the purpose of operating the Service.
16. Privacy & Data
Our collection and use of personal data, including payment data handled by Paddle, is described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described therein.
Click analytics data, including the visitor's IP address, country, city, device type, browser, OS, and referrer, is collected automatically for every click on a short link you create. This data is associated with your link and is visible to you in the console.
17. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We are not responsible for the content of any destination URL, nor for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Service.
18. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising out of your access to or use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
19. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for any reason, including violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at hi@shorturl.so. Before we delete an account, we cancel any paid plan on its workspace with immediate effect; refunds follow section 13.
A plan we end because you broke section 4 ends at once. The 14-day refund in section 13 does not apply to a plan we end because you broke section 4 (for example phishing, malware or spam). If we end a paid plan for any other reason, or stop offering the Service, we refund the unused part of the billing period you have paid for.
Upon termination, your short links may cease to function and your data may be deleted after a reasonable retention period. Billing records are kept detached from the deleted account for as long as the law requires, as described in our Privacy Policy.
20. Reporting Content, Complaints & Grievance Redressal
ShortURL is an intermediary. We do not create, select, or modify the destinations that users shorten, and we do not review links before they are created.
We have appointed a Grievance Officer, who handles reports about short links and complaints about the Service, including billing:
Grievance Officer, ShortURL
Email: grievances@shorturl.so
What you can report and the timelines we work to are published on our Grievance Redressal page. In summary: we acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days. We act on a valid court order or government notification within 36 hours, and we remove content in the nature of sexual imagery within 24 hours of a complaint from the person affected, or from someone acting for them.
21. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in advance by email to registered users and by a notice on the website, and each version states the date it takes effect. Price changes follow section 11. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms; if you do not accept them, you may cancel your plan and stop using the Service.
22. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the operator's country (to be confirmed). Subject to any rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be excluded, the courts of competent jurisdiction in that country have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.
Before going to court, please write to us at support@shorturl.so or to the Grievance Officer, so that we can try to put things right.
